Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Maryland

I just learned on the internet that my mother passed away 5 years ago. Her other relatives did not tell myself or my other siblings. My mother and I purchased a home together 9 years ago. Did my aunt have an obligation to notify me of her death. My mother had a long history of mental illness. I had been wanting to refinance my home since my mother ran out on her mortgage obligation in 2003. Even now I am unable to refinance due to an unemployed status. How do I find out if she had a will? I had the last know will that I was aware of. Do I need the services of an attorney?

You should have been notified. See Form 1104 List of Interested Parties and Form 1110 Notice of Interested Party. You don't mention whether your mother had any net assets in her estate or whether she had a will or not. If her estate was probated then there would be a record in the court as well as publication in a local newspaper prior to completion of probate.
