Legal Question in Personal Injury in Massachusetts

umbrella liabilty policy

I have a $1 mil umbrella policy in MA. It covers my home and all vechiles owned by both parents of the 18 yr old. The insurance co is now trying to add $125 to the policy because I have an 18 yr old son who is an inexperienced driver. My son has his own auto policy with $100K/$300 K personal injury limit. Ins Co claims the additional premium is if my son was driving my car. My son rarely (2-3 times per yr) drives my car. He has his own car. If my son had an accident while driving my car wouldn't he be covered first by his auto policy and second by my liability which a premium is already paid for each of the parent's main assest.

I feel that the ins co is just adding this fee for coverage that already exists. By law in MA you have to list all household mebers on the auto policy even if they have their own policy. My agent said I could drop this additional fee for the inexperienced operator. Should I drop it? I feel the coverage is already there on the auto itself.

Yes, you can drop it. Please (if possible) keep your son out of your car.
