I had a death in my family suddenly and told my boss what day I would be back she wrote it down. Now I came back on a Monday an was ready to work Tuesday she told me I wasn't on the schedule for the rest of the week. She text me thursday saying I was no longer needed. Can I be fired through a text in Massachusetts?

While it is crass and cowardly, she can fire you by text. I do not know who your employer is but generally, termination is done by at worst case by letter or phone call. The question is whether she has the right to terminate you for taking a personal day that was approved.

If she fired you the Company is required by law to pay you for your time through the date of termination immediately including accrued vacation time. If you were covered by medical insurance, you are entitled to a Cobra notice and other information. Moreover, if the company employes 5 or more people certain rules apply as well.

I would contact an employment lawyer to determine if there is a basis for a wrongful termination.
