Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts

unfair billing

In May i signed up for classes at a modeling agency.I told them that my mom would send me a check for the tuition, but they wanted me to write them one and then we would switch when my mothers came. the day of my first class i told them to just cash mine and they told me that the check was on its way back to me and that they had voided it.But they told me to go into the class anyways and not even 20 mins into the 3 hr. class they pulled me out and told me to go home and write a new check.I left and they cashed the check and i got a letter saying i owed $25 for the bank fee. now they are charging me $525 for the class that i was in and they are theatening to put a arrest warrent out if i dont pay that.

Call the Attorney General's Office of Consumer Affairs, the State Office of Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau. You may want to contact newspaper (local) or TV consumer reporter. The AG's office will be able to see if they have other claims against the company. Ask them what the law says and what you can do.

Re: unfair billing

1. Sounds like its over your head. The people you describe are probably familiar to the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General, Division of COnsumer Fraud. Contact them at once.

2. This sound like a civil dispute rather than a criminal matter. That they would threaten you with filing of a complaint alone makes them dangerous to you and others.

3. For them to seek a criminal action, they would either have to call the police or file for a criminal complaint.

4. You may want to go to the police station where the school is and explain the treats.

5. You can also take civil action against these people.

6. It may be a little expensive, but contact an attorney.
