Do I have to pay for an unfixed laptop?

I had a problem with my laptop's screen and brought it to a guy with his own shop. It's been over 2 months now and although the screen is not shaky anymore (according to him - I haven't seen it yet).. he said it is extremely dim and he can't figure out how to make it brighter.

I would like to get my laptop back now as I'm tired of waiting for him to fix it. Do I have to pay him anything? Last price he determined (if it was all fixed) was $170.00.
