Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

My daughter who is a senior at a local private college suffered a major medical emergency last October. We requested that she be put on a medical leave of absence, so she would not fail her courses. The college now wants us to pay for all the courses that she did not complete and did not get credits for. They are also withholding her transcripts. Do we have grounds for legal action?
