Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

credit card repayment

I was allowed to use my sisters credit card. I was making payments to the company for my purchases. She then asked me to make the payments directly to her. She gave me a copy of the cc summary with all charges on it. I paid her $400.00 a month for 1 and 1/2 years. I always noted on my checks what the payments were for. Now, I have found that she never paid the cc company and says that I owe her $9,500.00 in interest and finance charges. I called the cc company and they stated the card was no longer active and in the ''recovery'' phase. Am I legally responsible to pay her any more money?

Re: credit card repayment

Assuming you have proper documentation evidencing payments to your sister and what specifically each payment was to be applied towards, it would appear you have effectively discharged your obligation to her. However, if your name was on the credit card, there is a possibility you may be jointly liable for your purchases to the credit card company.
