Landlord/Tenant Issue

I have served my tenant with a 14 day notice to quit for non-payment they moved out on the 17th day and left a small amount of personal belongings can I legally change the locks and take possesion of the apartment This is in Massachusetts

This is not intellectual property, so you may not have gotten an answer yet.

It would appear to me that the tenants have moved and the property is abandoned. To be safe, I would hold the abandoned property for thirty days or so after getting a notice to the tenants that you will consider abandoned if not picked up. Don't keep it in the apartment, though -- clean it and get it rented.

Take hotos of all property before removal. Send a copy of the notice to the local police. Sure, the police will call you and ask what they're supposed to do with it, but that way, you've covered yourself.
