Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Massachusetts

can a person call a hospital after a patient has been discharged and get info on their condition and medical treatment and why they were in the ER?? Is that allowed?? And if someone that works at the hospital went into my record to give their friend info on my condition is that person subject to reprimand??

Personal medical records are very protected documents. Unauthorized access to them and sharing of their contents is forbidden by federal law (HIPPA), state law (the law of privacy and HIPPA state counterparts), and state criminal law.

A hospital or staff member acting as you suggest may also be held accountable and made subject to severe repercussions.
