Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

Roommate problem

I recently purchased a condo with a 21-year old male (I'm 20/female). Both our names are on the mortgage (but we're not married or in a relationship), we also rent out the third room to a 22/female. The male has completely disrespected us; throwing wild parties (cops usually get called), breaking furniture, not contributing to expenses. He also has a temper, and when he's angry he gets violent (he hasn't hit me or her yet, but would have if I didn't move fast). Basically, the renter and myself want the third roommate to leave. But he technically owns half the property. Is there type of action we can take to force him out, and still keep the condo?

Re: Roommate problem

Sorry to hear things aren't going well. You have to try to buy him out. If he won't agree, you can go to court on what is called a "Petition to Partition". Basically, this asks the judge to force him to sell and for the judge to decide how much the roommate should be paid for his share. The amount can be adjusted for things such as damage he did to the property. You really need to have a lawyer help with something like this.
