Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

My husband has the deed to our house with my mother in law listed as a tenant for life. I consigned for an equity line of credit for home repairs and bill consolidation. If we divorce, am I still responsible to help pay back line of credit, since I would move out? We live in Massachusetts.

Your divorce would not relieve you of any liability. If you get divorced you need to require your husband -- ultimately ex-husband to get your name removed from the equity line.

I am not sure why you have your mother-in-law listed as a life tenant, unless the home was originally hers.

I hope your marriage works out, but if not get a competent divorce attorney.

I agree. You sign, you owe on the note.
