getting a morgage

is it possible to have two married couples get a morgage that includes both parties income for the morgage

If both couples are buying the property and/or living there, yes.

If you are buying a two family together, then yes it is quite possible. A single home may raise other issues, but if it is parents and children, it may be done.

It is a matter for the lender. There is no law against it. However, I would strongly suggest that there be an agreement between the couples as to what happens if one wants to sell and the other does not as well what happens if one cannot pay the mortgage. That agreement will not be binding on the lender. The lender will make you all jointly and severally liabile for the entire agreement.
