Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Massachusetts

Limitation on Time of Will Disbursement

As a teenager, I was informed via mail from a law firm in Boston, a firm now unknown to me, that I was bequeathed $5,000 from my grandfather, who had then recently died, having lived and owned property in the Brookline area. Receiving no guidance from my family, I simply awaited the monies, which were never received. Now, some 45 years later, I am wondering if I have any legal basis for pursuing my inheritance. -- Thanks

Re: Limitation on Time of Will Disbursement

You can personally or through an attorney research the records of your grandfather's estate to see if any accounting therein reflects the disposition of the $5,000 bequest of which you were informed. It may have been paid to someone on your behalf, as a guardian. The estate could only be reopened on an allegation of Fraud. Good Luck!
