You can usually buy land in any part of Mexico, regardless of whether you are a citizen or not, unless it is within 50 kilometers along the coast or 100 kilometers along international borders. For this situations, you can also acquired possession rights as an owner, through a trust contract (fideicomiso) with the help of a financial institution. You should always check if such property is not a communal property (ejido) and if it is, that it is properly assigned to private ownership.
