Legal Question in Disability Law in Michigan

I received a fake lawyer email saying that the "lawyer" would sue me and there will be court fines of $250 that I would have to pay. When I read the email, I was very scared thinking of going to court which reminds me of jail time and everything... Is it illegal to do this?
