Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

False Debt Collection

I have been receiving the same letter of outstanding obligation of SOMEONE with a very similar name of mine for some months. It says I have to settle it or to be sued. I have called the collection attorney's office personally and talked a lady in charge of the office, and she said she would stop sending the letter; but, she did not. Then, I sent a letter in certified and registered mail, but it did not work, too. I keep receiving the letter, and keep ignoring afterwards. I am wondering if attorneys can do this kind of harassment under the name of law (I did not know if this kind of attorneys also do business). Is not this considered a kind of harassment? How can I take care of this annoying and shameless letter sent from the attorneys office? What can it happen if they keep sending the letter and I ignore it?

No, they should not continue to contact you after you have advised them the debt is not yours. For assistance with this and a potential lawsuit for violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, you can contact me at (248) 679-1552.
