Re: finacial

If you have significant unsecured debt, you may want to consider bankruptcy for a fresh start.

A law firm cannot threaten to garnish your wages unless they already have a judgment against you.

Re: finacial

Have they filed suit yet and obtained a judgment? If not, that will take them several months to do, and cost them more money.

They can garnish up to 25% of your paycheck until the balance owed is paid off in full, and they can also garnish your bank accounts. Your best bet is to work out a payment plan, like you tried to do, but keep it at something you can afford so you don't miss a payment. Whatever agreement you reach, get it in writing! They will play hardball with you at first, trying to get you to pay more than you can afford, so just stick to your guns.

Depending on your situation, you may want to discuss this with a bankruptcy lawyer, such as myself. Please contact me if you need to set up a consultation.
