Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Is an assault justified

My daughter in law is in nursing school at a michigan community college. Part of her training is to be in a hospital 2 nights a week. One of her classmates-a large male-shoved her quite hard as they were making rounds. He then did it a second time, and she blew up by getting in his face and calling him a few unpolite names. The teacher basically ignored all this by saying ''children, let's all get along''. My daughter in law reported the incident to the school security and made a report. She followed up to see why nothing was done with this individual. The head of nursing told her the teacher had counselled both students, and she should not have antagonized the male to physically place his hands on her. My daughter in law was 9 weeks pregnant, and had a misscarrage on monday. She has been stressed out over this incident, is afraid of the male student and i feel this had something to do with losing the baby. How much responsibiltiy does the college have to follow up when an assault is reported?

Re: Is an assault justified

No one has the right to assault another, no matter what the verbal provocation, unless the actor has had his own safety compromised by the victim at the same time.

If your daughter-in-law did "antagonize" this male, how and when did this take place?
