Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

My car was broken into

About a month ago my car was broken into. The police came out and took some prints from inside and outside of the car. I have been in contact with the detectives, they found a match to the prints and questioned the suspect because I did not know who he was. He said that he noticed my car had been broken into and he called the police on the non-emergency #, but since he was not the victim he was unable to file a report. He said he touched the car because he placed some of my items back in the car and locked my car back up out of courtesy. I tend to believe the story, should he be arrested. Is his finerprints inside my car enough to arrest and charge him. I don't want the wrong person going to jail for something they did not do. Would the fingerprints be enough for him to get charged. That is the only evidence they have. It is no record of the phone call because he did not call 911. So wil this guy get arrested and charge for this. It seems like to many possibilites and I just don't want the wrong person to get in trouble for this.
