Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

jury trial

I was given a ticket for poss of marijuana. I want to represent myself in a jury trial because I can prove I am not guilty. I have a clean drug test from the hospital immediately after I recieved the ticket. I also have three very creditable witnesses who heard, a man that I fired from work say, ''I will do anything to get him back.'' This man that I fired was caught in my vehicle by one of the witnesses two days before I recieved the ticket. The other witness that I have caught this same man that I fired putting marijuana in the witnesses car about three months prior to my incident. This man that I fired is a town drunk and local screwup with many convictions, and is well known by the police. I have three children, a wife, and no money please help.

Re: jury trial

You should reconsider your stance on wanting to represent yourself. If the facts are as you have written an attorney might be able to convince the prosecutor to dismiss the charge. If you do not have the money to retain an attorney request that the court appoint an attorney for you. Most of the court appointed attorneys are very good and should provide you with professional representation. There are many nuances involved with criminal procedure that most people aren't aware of and if not addressed properly could result in the exclusion of your exculpatory evidence and lead to a conviction. I strongly suggest that you reconsider your decision to represent yourself and seek the assistance of an attorney.
