You "got YTA ... 8 years ago", but you don't know what that is, or what it does to your record?!?

Do you remember being on probation? Doing all the things that the judge wanted you to do on probation? Etc. If so, then you might not have any conviction on your record for this crime.

You need to contact your old case's attorney AND the court that handled your case to find out what the status of the case is. If you so lack memory of things, it's possible that you forgot to finish your probation terms and there's a bench warrant out there. The court personnel might need you to prove that you are the defendant before giving information because HYTA status makes the file a "non-public record", meaning that they shouldn't give out any information to the public about the case.

Otherwise, if you did everything the court wanted, then the effect of HYTA (Holmes Youthful trainee Act) is to give the court the authority to dismiss the entire case, so you would not be "convicted".

You might also be wise to order your criminal history on-line to see if it shows that you have a conviction. Go to the Michigan State Police web site (www.michigan.gov/msp) and go to the I-CHAT link and follow the directions. You'll need a credit card and an email address. I think the cost is $10.
