Legal Question in Education Law in Michigan

parental permission

Are there any laws that would prohibit or restrict what an educator can say to a child regarding the possibility that the child may be ADD or ADHD without parental permission?

Re: parental permission

Hello, and thanks for visiting us.

No, I don't think there are any such laws - either on a federal or state level that would preclude such a communication. I may be wrong, and one of my colleagues here may offer a specific.

The type of communication that you suggest may (underline "may") be contrary to a policy adopted by your Board of Education. I would ask the superintendent's office to see the policy manual and peruse it to see if there is any local prohibition.

Good luck
