Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

ammending a divorce decree

I would like to have a divorce decree amended. Currently, I cannot claim either of my two children as deductions because of the divorce agreement...The ex-husband has claimed them both for the last five years and I would like to know how to file a motion in circuit court(?) to have this issue addressed... Does this require hiring an attorney or can I do this on my own?

Re: ammending a divorce decree

If the issue was addressed in the original judgment, it will be impossible to change it simply because it has worked out to be unfair.

If it was not addressed in the original judgment, then the IRS rules take over. Either way, your remedy will not be in amending the judgment. Don't waste your money on a lawyer. Get tax advice. William S. Stern 248-353-9400
