deadbeat dad

If you are not going through friend of the court for child support and you are not getting what was agreed upon, can you sue the deadbeat dad?

You cannot file a seperate lawsuit. That would be the incorrect procedure to collect the support. An experienced family law attorney will be able to begin the process for you using the correct procedure.

Absolutely - you can pursue this either through an attorney or by yourself (obviously, through an attorney would be easiest.) If you do it yourself, you need to file a motion for an Order to Show Cause. Basically, you are asking the Judge to ask the deadbeat dad to "show a cause" (reason) as to why he isn't paying his child support. If the Judge does not see a good reason, he will order the child support be paid.

You'll have to go after the deadbeat father in the same court that ordered the support in the first place. William S. Stern
