Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Divorce & Expectant Mother

I'm in my 8th month of pregnancy, just left my husband and I don't want him to know where I am. I got pregnant in January, we married in March (in Kentucky) and then the following weekend he was deployed to Iraq from his training base in Kentucky. We never lived together as husband and wife and have no property together. I am from Michigan, he's from New York. At his demands, I moved to an appartment in his hometown in New York for two months. Being unhappy there and not wanting to be with him anymore I left as I told him I would. He doesn't know where I am. He said if I don't tell him my address he'll file a missing person's report.I have been in correspondence with him through phone calls and emails. I talked to the police and they said I don't have to see or talk to him. He constantly upsets me which I fear could hurt our unborn baby. I want a divorce from him and would like to know when legally I have to tell him where I am. I know when I file for a divorce my address will be listed. Since he is the father of the unborn baby, when must I tell him my location? I don't want to be considered a kidnapper. Currently, I'm not in Michigan but within driving distance in order to file versus waiting 6 months here to file. Thank you.

Re: Divorce & Expectant Mother

If filing in Michigan, you must live in Michigan for at least 6 months. He will be entitled to know the whereabouts of the child. If he wants, he will be granted visitation but this is extremely difficult and burdensome to all involved, especially with a very young child. I think your attitude should be to make the best of a bad situation, get a good lawyer and go forward. Realize that there is no great solution, unless he decides to stay out of your life. William S.
