friend of the court

I am seperated from my husband and am planning on divorce. do I have to file for divorce first before using friend of the court. I would like to recieve child support before the long divorce process

You have to file for divorce, but you may request temporary child support and/or other relief from the court. The friend of the court becomes involved through the divorce process when there are minor children. An attorney can assist you in such matters.
