Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

My husband and I are legal guardians of 2 grandsons since 2004 and one of them has lived with us since 2001. Our son is agreeing now to let us adopt. The question is does the mother have any say-so especially since she hasn't tried to get custody of the children for the last 6 years. We would like to adopt for the safety of the children since their mother we feel is incapable of following through with parent responsibilities.

You want to make sure that an adoption is not messed up. I'd consult with a lawyer who specializes in adoptions just to make sure that the mother cannot come in and mess it up.
