Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Short marriage-Can I get financial help from husband?

We've been married only three years. I know any financial settlement in this case would be nominal and okay with me, but;

I came from Canada 4 years ago. Gave away belongings and left a 20yr job. It was very well paid service work. Had just finished Paralegal training, couldn't use it in MI and still have @$8,000 debt for it. Never utilized the training and after 4yrs may have trouble doing it.

Bottom line, I have no money, no job, minimal possessions to start over and plan to return to Canada. My husband earns just under $90,000yr.

I will get a job immediately, but in the minimum wage area since I have no experience besides service work.

Is it at all possible that I would be legally entitled to receive any substantial monies from him to help me start all over? (I'm not sure how much but somewhere about $5,000 to $10,000.) Thank you.

Hello, I have received a copy of your e-mail regarding a divorce. Divorce litigation is one of this firm's areas of concentration. Divorce litigation is very "fact specific." There are many factor that are considered in either a property settlement or in the appropriateness of spousal support. However, the facts that you have mentioned are facts that would be considered and which, in my opinion, justify the recovery you are seeking. Feel free to call us at (248) 743-6800 to schedule an appointment where we can discuss the specifics of your case in more detail, the options available to you, and the likely fee ranges. John C.
