Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

show cause hearing

I am scheduled for a show cause hearing in a couple of days. I am currently unemployed but have been actively seeking employment. I do not wish to go to jail but was told this was an option if I did not have the money to pay back child suport the day of the hearing. I am willing to compromise to just about anything, but how can I pay with no job at the present time and what are my chances of going to jail? I only owe around $2000 in back suport and this includes court costs for upcoming hearing.

The judge will want to know why you became behind in support when you were working. Now, all you can do is go plead your case. Also, file a motion to reduce support based on your new, temporary situation. When you become reemployed, your support can then go up.
