What does it mean for an attorney to serve as ''common counsel'' in a case? Can common counsel practice in each U.S. state?

Re: Common counsel
I never heard of the term used in that context and I've been practicing for close to 30 years. I've heard the term "general counsel". That means a person in charge of a law department of a company for most things. They oversee the litigation and hire other lawyers to represent the company. Common counsel also is used in the context of serving on the board of a governmental body. You don't have to be a lawyer to do that. William S. Stern
