Legal Question in Immigration Law in Michigan

Getting married on Saipan Island

I met a wonderful woman in china and we have been in contact every day since May 1st. We want to get married but understand that there is a huge amount of paper work that we need to do just to get her out of china. I am not referring to the paper work that is needed for the green card and immigration paperwork once she is here in the states to become a legal US citizen.

Since Chinese people do not need to get a VISA for Saipan Island, would it be possible to marry there and then bring her into the states since the island is under the USA. I see Mexicans and Canadians coming into the USA all the time and marry US citizens.

Thanks

Sean

Re: Getting married on Saipan Island

Okay, let's take this one step at a time. If you are not married yet, you have two choices: either marry her overseas, or petition for her on a fiance visa petition. Marriage in Saipan is fine, but you still have to file the petition either with the U.S. Embassy there or back here. You need to consult with a good immigration attorney to figure out what your best options are. Call my office if you need or want help. Take care, good luck, and congratulations on finding a terrific lady!

Chinese citizens would need to enter the US on a valid visa with a proper I-94 entry card issued upon arrival into the U.S. to be able to qualify for any type of immigration benefit through marriage down the road.
