Death and unpaid debt

Whom is responsible for unpaid debt in the result of a death? There is a Last will and testament leaving assets to adult children.

Depends on the type of debt - secured vs unsecured, debt instrument signed by the deceased and the mode by which the assets were left with the adult children. Is there a springing trust or the assests are being probated in court.
