Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

How to handle debt owed by a deceased person?

A family member has passed away leaving behind unpaid credit card debt. The only assest she had is a car that is paid for. The credit card compaines have been able to verify that she had this vehicle and wants us to sell it and give the money to them towards the debt owed on the credit cards. We are wondering if we are legally bound to do that or not.
