Legal Question in Workers Comp in Michigan

Work injury/ employer threats

I am a carpenter.I work for a construction co.Non union.I injured myself at work 4 weeks ago.I slipped and fell on the roof.I noticed pain in my lower back and right leg.I informed my employer and sought help from my physician. He took xrays had me undergo ct and 2 mri's to rule out any severe spinal or broken hip injuries.I have kept my employer informed on this and have given him all the excused from work forms from my physician.

I will under go an emg this thursday to determine the extent of my injuries and have the results next monday.I informed my employer of this. This made him very upset. He told me my doctor was a "quack" and that I should see his personal chiropracter immediatly. When I told him I wanted to wait and see the results of emg to know the extent of my injury and see what my physician recomended he told me "you'll go to my chiropracter now or I will cancel your insurance".Meaning he would cancel the health and dental plan my wife and I are covered under offered by his co.I dont believe this is right!

And I dont think I should be forced to seek any physical therepy without knowing the extent of my injury or the recomendations of my physician.

I would appreciate your help and views on this.

Thank You.

Re: Work injury/ employer threats

I am an attorney in Illinois. You are correct that you are not being teated well. You should see a local attorney experienced in Workers' Comp immediately. You cannot handle this yourself. You should not go to a chiropractor until the orthopedic surgeon has done all he can for you. It sounds like your company is trying to avoid reporting your injury to its Work Comp insurance company. You want it reported so that benefits can be started for you. See a lawyer ASAP.
