Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

hi, i just got a call from a lawyers office, they want me to make payments to pay off a credit card debt, for 2900.00, last i knew it was 1900.00....i asked him how it got to be so much, and he said i haven't made a payment in a couple of years, i asked him for a copy of the bill, so i could see how it got so high, and he said that he sent out a letter of demand in sept. , and i didn't answer it. should i make an arrangement for payments on this amount, or should i demand a copy of the bill....he said that he would put in the computer that I didn't want to make payments, and to continue with the court thing....not sure what it was.but, he was very much pressuring me, and I do not have a job, and my husband works part time,so it is hard to pay anything, but, i do not want to go to court, what should i do?

If they were a lawfirm, they are bound to follow the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

If they have violated that, they may have to pay YOU damages in excess of $ 1000.00.

You may want to have an attorney verify the debt and demand documentation.

Call or email for assistance.
