Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

felony theft of about $5,000

I have a court date to appear coming up in march, for felony theft. The loss prevention guy that had quetsioned me at my work (where the theft occurred) alone, and badgered me into admission after 30 mins of me telling him i didnt steal anything. He then proceeded to coach me into admitting what i stole IE: so tell me about the laptops, what about tvs etc even though there never was theft of tvs etc. He then circled random items on a list of items that have gone missing from inventory over time... they have no eye witness, no video footage, all they have is my written confession, video confession, an agreement to pay restitution and a police statement... i suffer from high anxiety and depression and found out i was 10 weeks pregnant at the time, and he knew i was pregnant... he told me that he already knew what I stole and that if i didnt cooperate that it wouldnt be good for me, and that if i cooperated i wouldnt get arrested... that he could help me etc... after the fact I already said no to him for about 30 mins... WITH NO OTHER WITNESSES In the room, and he started the camera after he badgered me... I was wondering if I would be facing any jail time, etc I am 5-6 months pregnant right now, and need to know what will happen.

Re: felony theft of about $5,000

It is a felony if the theft exceeded $1000. You may certainly contest the admissions as coerced and you would likely challenge the number of items alleged to have been taken and their value. In many instances, if you have a clean record, a criminal conviction may be avoided altogether with a Stay of Prosecution. It is extremely important to have a counsel on such a case.
