Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

Looking at felony-cannot afford attny

I was assigned a public defender one year ago. He dumped me at my last hearing because of money. I am contesting the charges and t he judge ordered me to pay an attorney...I am laid off and my UI will not let me afford this expense and keep my home. I have been through hell for some time and I dont want to make a mistake by taking the plea agreement set by the state prosecutor and ruin the rest of my life....can anyone help me decide what to do?

I am afraid that I do not understand. A public defender cannot withdraw from a case without permission of the court and it cannot be related to payment.

Regardless, your only real choice is to find funds to hire private counsel to represent you in your criminal matter. Obviously, the stakes are high when it comes to a permanent criminal record that can affect future employability and other issues.
