Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

divorce

I left my alcoholic husband of 21 yrs. I moved from MN to CO apprx 7 months ago to get away from him. I have one child (17) still at home in MN. I want a divorce but have no job and no money. He has everything of mine. He says he's going to hire an attorney and will take me for everything. What do I do? I cannot afford an attorney.

Re: divorce

You should probably make it a priority to find legal advice. Contact an attorney through legal aid or some other volunteer legal services organization who can advise you of your rights.

Realize that your husband's threats to take you for everything will probably not work if you do your best to respond and participate in the legal process. Under Minnesota law, the Courts have an obligation to divide property equitably.
