Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Drunk husband

I have a husband who is always drunk or on drugs and can't take care of himself, he even set himself on fire once and didn't even know it - I want to leave him but I want the house - it's paid for and I don't want to have to start over. I currently work but cannot afford an attorney. I have to grown kids 19 and 17, what recourses do I have to get out of this marraige and on with my life. How do I go about finding what kind of help the state/county has for me. I live in Minnesota.

Re: Drunk husband

You do have a problem. You could ask the County to intervene to petition him into care as a vulnerable adult. Call Social services in your County. You may have some support responsibilities for your husband. You can check with legal aid to see if you qualify for free legal assistance but if you are working you may not qualify. You can obtain the forms for a divorce from the Court or library and try to fill them out yourself. You should at least spend an hour with an attorney to see where you stand. Dennis.
