Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota

Auto Title Liabilities...?

I bought a car for my husband in Nov of 07. He never drove the car, and so he forgot to transfer the title, which was in the name of the original owner. We sold the car about 8 months ago, and a phone call to the DMV revealed that the title is currently in the name of the new owner. Recently, we have received harassing phone calls from a woman who claims to be legal representation for the original owner as well as the man who sold me the car. Apparently, the original owner is now receiving warrants for his arrest due to some sort of unpaid ticket expenses. The woman is threatening to take us to court if we do not pay the expenses, however, the car was not driven during the period of time it was in my husband's possession, so there is no possible way any fines could have been accrued without our knowledge. She will not give me any relevant information such as the exact amounts and dates on the fines. Needless to say, I am a bit confused and frustrated. I am wondering if she has any legal grounds for her claims, or if this is just a bullying tactic in effort to get money. Please help, any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time.

Re: Auto Title Liabilities...?

If the person is claiming to be an atty + is NOT, that is a crime.

If it is an atty, they would be obliged to review your docs + Affidavit that car was not driven. Was it stored? Do you have a receipt for storage?

Call or email for help.
