Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota

Non payment of services rendered

I recently painted the exterior of a co workers house for the agreed sum of 1800 USD. To date she has only paid 200. She promised to pay me the balance in full over a month ago, I am starting to worry she will never pay. Can I take her to court even though we never had a written contract, but i do have two witnesses who were there when we agreed verbally. What can I do?

Re: Non payment of services rendered

Yes. You can go to conciliation court in the county where she lives. Your zip indicates you live in Scott County; if she lives there also, here is the link to Scott County Conciliation Court:

http://www.mncourts.gov/district/1/?page=1445 (this is the First District website which includes Scott County). Follow th einstructions and file the form and you will get a court date from the conciliation court office. You will likely need to bring at least one, and better both, of the witnesses to testify.

That said, good luck to you!
