Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Minnesota

estate taxes

My wife's mother died in MN last June. Her estate was split equally between my wife and her brother. My wife is the executrix. To avoid fines and late fees, My wife paid the MN estate taxes owed on her mom's estate after her brother verbally agreed to ''pay his part.'' The total was about $28000. Now her bother says he won't pay his half because he lives in FL where they don't have estate taxes. Is there anything we can do to get him to pay the $14K? Is this something that could be handled in small claims courts? What legal actions should we consider?

Re: estate taxes

There are numerous issues in this case. 1) Was there probate opened in MN 2) Were the assets distributed, creditors paid and probate closed 3) was there any property located in FL 4) who was the personal representative/executor of the estate 5) etc. I would be happy to discuss your matter, feel free to contact my office via emial or phone ([email protected])Disclaimer: This was designed for general information purposes only.
