Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Mississippi

Collection on repossessed vehicle

I had a vehicle repossessed several months ago. After the resale of the vehicle by the lienholder, I was notified I owed 5600.00 more on the vehicle. I am trying to make arrangements to pay this with the collection agency. They called and said I had to give them postdated checks for that amount or they would take me to court. Is this correct and how can I handle this another way? I can't get another loan to pay this right now. I told them I could pay 120.00 each month on this. They have only given me until tomorrow to let them know my decision. What will happen now and can I pay this another way or is this my only option? I'm afraid to give them postdated checks because I am afraid they will put them through the bank early and also, that is a LOT of checks to send. Thank you.
