Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

Child's last name

I have a 16 year old step daughter. I have been her dad since she was 2 years old. Her daddy is in jail right now sentenced for 3 years for child molestation. Is their a way that i can have her last name changed to mine. Their has not been a child support payment in several years either.

Why not adopt her? Then she can have your last name and she will be your legal daughter. I don�t believe terminating the parental rights of the natural father will be that difficult given the crime he has been convicted of.
