Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Mississippi

Breach of Contract

My bedroom suffered water damage possibly due to rain or faulty pipes. Water leaked through the air vent. Carpet is damp. Water damage is on the wall, the ceiling and the corner. Of course, there is an odor due to the dampness. Isn't this a breach of my contract? What are my rights as a tenant in the state of MS in this type of situation?

Re: Breach of Contract

Your landlord is required to provide habitable living and, when your living space becomes inhabitable, your landlord must be notified and given an opportunity to fix the problem. If you do these things and your landlord refuses to fix the problem, you may then have grounds to move out.
