Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Mississippi

Inheritance Rights of Adoptees

My step-father died recently, leaving a valid will written in 2002. While each of his children were left some portion of the proceeds from the sale of his home, the bulk of his estate was willed to his and my mother's (my mother died in 2001)natural son together and me. He had two children who were adopted by he and his previous wife. I have been told by someone since his death that there is an old Mississippi law that mandates certain inheritance by adopted children, and that this law circumvents even a valid will. I am my step-father's executor and need to know if this is an issue I need to bring up with my attorney.

Always discuss and disclose issues with your attorney. I assume the person in the know about "old Mississippi laws" was not a lawyer. It is current law that controls. So ask your lawyer, he will be happy to answer.
