Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

Warrant issued for stealing my own check

I recently discovered a warrant had been issued for my arrest on 7/02. I have been charged with stealing. Here is the incident... My cat received services at a vets office. I paid with a check which the vets office agreed to hold. The amount was between $100 and $200. A couple of days later my cat was still very ill and I took it back to the vet for further treatment. The vet refused to treat my cat on the basis they were already holding a check for me. They laid the check on the counter in front of me. I took the check back and left in anger. My question: If I could get the vet to agree to some form of payment from me, could he still drop the charges? Can I go in front of a judge and explain the situation and get the warrant revoked? I am very willing to pay the bill and any additional charges. I would just like to avoid any criminal record. Please help. I feel lost and scared.

Re: Warrant issued for stealing my own check

You can not just go in front of a judge, because you will be arrested on the warrant. Also, your willingness to pay the vet will be helpful later on, but right now there is a pending legal action which is the state, or the county or the city against you. The vet is not a party to that legal action, only a witness. You need to hire an attorney who will probably be able to get the warrant cancelled or arrange for you to make a reasonable bond.
