Legal Question in DUI Law in Missouri

MIP on JACKS FORK RIVER IN SHANNON COUNTY, MO

While canoeing/tubing with a group of 15 people, 3 of us being under the legal age of 21 to consume alcohol. When asked to bring our tubes to the side my buddy who was far wasted (also underage) said ''I haven't been drinking officer''...a dead give away. The park ranger then asked us our age and if we had been drinking also stating we had been filmed drinking. So, myself gave admited and gave my age another underage person admited also. The Park Ranger went on to say that if my buddy hadn't have lied he would have given us a warning, but instead he is just giving two out of four of our little group tickets expecting the other two people(1 being of age and the other underage) to help with the cost of the ticket. The Ranger also stated that if we pay the fine of 125.00 no one outside of this group will know about it. He also said that it won't go on our records, etc. Is this true? I don't want to pay the fine and have it sit on my record. I feel completely mislead and need some guidance fast as my 1st week is winding down. To me a MIP is an MIP regardless but he certainly made light of the situation and made it seem like it is no big deal. I had just had one beer or so and was definatly not wasted. Please help me. Quickly...Thanks!

You are correct that the arresting officer was misleading you. You do not want to pay a fine. You would wind up with a MIP on your record. You should hire an attorney to arrange a plea bargain to avoid the conviction. Good luck.
