Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

how is an annulment obtained?

when and how is an annulment obtained? a friend was legally married; the grooms parent did not want the marriage to happen. she has threatened to have the marriage annulled. both participants were of legal marriageable age in missouri, all the legal requirements were met before the actual ceremony. can the parent have the marriage annulled for any reason, do both parties have to be aware there will be an annulment, and will both parties be notified if there was an annulment? any information would be helpful and appreciated. thank you.

Re: how is an annulment obtained?

Where are you from? I have been practicing law for over twenty six years and I have never heard of any parent of an adult married person obtaining an annulment for that person! It is absolutely rediculous. I did have one case where I obtained a Court Ordered annulment effectively making a marriage void ab initio based on the fact that one of the parties was still married at the time she got married to my client. Still, legal annulments are extremely rare and the parents in your scenario will certainly not be able to get one.
