Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Missouri

I have loaned money to a friend and asked for checks to cover the amount. They didn't have a check book available so I took a IOU with date, amount owed, owed to myself and had them print and sign thier name. I am going to hold the IOU until I get checks written to me to cover the amount. Can that IOU be used in a civil court to get my money if they don't pay me back?

Yes, but it probably won't get you other things (such as typical market interest rate or attorney's fees) unless it specifically says so. You can still get statutory interest rate - see Missouri Statute 408.040.
